Social and Emotional Learning
Social Emotional Learning is defined as having the ability to effectively communicate, resolve conflicts and disagreements, interact with others and control emotional responses. The development of a child’s SEL skills, their self-awareness, self-control and their inter-personal skills affects their ability to succeed in all areas of life.
UCLA researchers have shown
that Beat the Odds® can significantly reduce a spectrum of behavior problems in children, such as those associated with inattention, withdrawn/depression, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity, oppositional defiance, and sluggish cognitive tempo. In addition, the curriculum is inclusive, culturally relevant, and does not bear the stigma of therapy.
